Silence

Tonight I ate at Panera Bread at South Pointe. Just looking around at all the different people... I like to sit and watch people and make up stories about their lives that are probably not true. There was a different crowd there tonight... some obviously on dates, a few sitting by themselves and others in groups. But there was this couple there eating that caught my eye. They sat in the corner by the door. Another couple came and the first couple obviously wasn't planning on seeing the second couple by the surprised look on their faces. It was as though they were long lost friends - the hugs, the "omgosh" as though she was saying "I haven't seen you forever." I really thought the one lady may cry. For the first five minutes of their meal, they talked nonstop as though they were catching up on old times... After the first five minutes, it was silent at their table, not because they were eating. Their food hadn't even come yet. They all stared at one another as though they were searching for conversation, but the silence was saying so much about their relationship, not that they don't talk or whatever, but just that they can sit there, with smiles on their faces, and enjoy one another's company without speaking.
