Part of the Dog Pound, Literally

There's an essay visible on my face. You'll see it tomorrow, but I wanted to give you a heads up. I got bit by a dog last night. I look like I was in a bar brawl. I should have known better than what I thought I knew in that moment. I leaned over a tired dog to give love. I received something different.I'm always amazed at what fear will do, to humans, to animals, the lengths that we'll go to, to protect ourselves. I see people laugh when I think they really want to cry. I see people silenced when I think they really want to shout. I see people express guilt when all they really want is approval. Fear drives us; fear grasps us and doesn't let go. I worry that fear is sometimes, if not always, a safer place to be. ~LZH
